This is a question that I am often asked.
Depending on how severe your pattern of eating (and perhaps drinking) is, you may or may not find alcohol an issue.
If you can enjoy one or two drinks occassionally and be satisfied with that, then you may well be able to drink alcohol and remain free from food obsessions.
However, the malority of people that I have worked with find that alcohol is a trigger for them. Not only do they find it hard to limit their alcohol intake to a few glasses, but they also find that it triggers a desire to overeat. The desire to overeat may not kick in straight away, it may come the day after having alcohol.
I personally avoid alcohol. This may change one day, who knows, but at the moment I am happy to accept that if I have a drink it will create a want in me for more – more alcohol or food. Either way, I find living with a feeling of constant want intolerable, so if avoiding alcohol brings more peace than having it, I choose not to have it.
